Hanks his next film role was as an astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks with Ron Howard. The film's performances , as well as Kevin Bacon's performance were generally appreciated by reviewers. The film garnered nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Later that year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. A year later, Hanks made his directorial debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The tale of the fall and rising of a 1960s rock group. Hanks is also in the role of music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and most reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanks' portrayal made him one of the finest romantic comedy actors of the time.
